Make it Fairtrade this Valentine’s Day

One of the first key dates we will encounter this year is Valentine’s Day, and as we approach special dates and events this year, no doubt like me you feel a little different having been through the last year.  Buying gifts has now taken on a new meaning. Spontaneity has been replaced with careful consideration, last minute decisions are now deliberate and thought through.

So while these dates can be stark reminders of how separate we currently are, they also offer the opportunity to be creative, to think outside the box and mark the occasion in a more heartfelt way than ever before.

Many of us have built stronger bonds within our local community and businesses throughout the pandemic, something I hope will remain with us far into the future.  This Valentine’s Day, lets support small and ethical businesses, ordering flowers from a Fairtrade Florist, sending a card lovingly created by a local artist, gift a box of handmade chocolates from that newly discovered Raw Chocolatier!

In supporting local and Fairtrade, we allow a community to thrive, we make lasting bonds, we recognise those with incredible skills and we show love and appreciation for our global producers.

I for one have been so grateful to my customers, friends and supporters throughout this tough year. I haven’t been able to share my work with a wider audience at shows, festivals or events.  However, this hasn’t stopped people reaching out for bespoke commissions, for virtual appointments, wedding rings, special gifts and to even just catch up!

As Valentine’s Day approaches, I have a handful of Fairtrade gold wedding ring commissions on the go, which fills me with so much love and joy just knowing that despite everything, couples who want to make a difference remain determined despite having changed dates, dropped guest numbers and completely changed plans.

It may be a cliché now, but it’s still heart warming to know that LOVE IS NOT CANCELLED…

And Valentine’s Day is not exclusive either!

I’m a big believer that Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be exclusively for the couples, the lovers, the life partners.  It is for family, for friends and also for ourselves.  It is a time to show love and appreciation to anyone who makes a big difference in your life, that person you can rely on through thick and thin.

So, if you’re thinking of gifting something to yourself, the person you love, the person that has kept you smiling over the last months then here are some of my special Valentine’s Day gift suggestions. They are all lovingly designed, handmade and with ethical practice and materials at their heart:
